It might be surprising to discover that the words whole grain, healthy, naturally low in fat and calories, and gluten-free describe one of America’s most popular snacks, popcorn. At one time, popcorn was a breakfast food, much like cereal today. Popcorn’s illustrious history spans thousands of years, from the ceremonial use by the Aztecs to speculation that native Americans loved it long before the pilgrims landed. Nadia Elhaj, owner of Cornucopia Popcorn in Austin, Texas, believes that popcorn makes any event a memorable celebration.
Cornucopia Popcorn’s humble beginnings thirteen years ago was launched when Nadia purchased an old popcorn machine from Craig’s List. The man who owned the machine had once owned a popcorn shop and was kind enough to share his knowledge with Nadia. Armed with an abundance of creativity and the belief that food could be fun, Nadia Elhai fixed her roots in Austin and now offers over thirty delicious, handcrafted popcorn flavors daily. Flavors range from a traditional buttered or cheddar cheese to a unique “crazy concoction of Salted Caramel and White Cheddar” aptly named the Austin Mix. For the Birthday Cake mix, Nadia started with vanilla popcorn as a base, coated it with white chocolate, and then tossed everything in festive confetti sprinkles. Nadia graduated from UT, so The Longhorn Mix combines the classic flavors of Kettle and Caramel and is colored in orange and white. However, nothing says Texas like Cornucopia’s Texas Butter Pecan Mix with rich caramel and savory salted pecans. Bags are heat-sealed and foiled-lined to keep your delicious treats fresh for up to six months. In addition, Cornucopia offers colorful tins that feature a selection of flavors and designs.
At Cornucopia, take the opportunity to explore unique flavors while living outside the box. Popcorn is not just a snack but lends itself to personal or corporate gift-giving and even weddings.
Cornucopia is committed to supporting local charities like the YMCA of Austin, the Austin Children’s Shelter, and Austin Pets Alive. Cornucopia also supports For Kid’s Sake, an international organization that supports orphanages and schools in Bangladesh, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Cornucopia is a family business with Nadia’s brother, Mike Elhaj, who helps her run the company. Together, they form a winning team.
For Nadia, “From our hearts to your hands, keep Austin popping.”
