Sh͞ar – Trail mix so impossibly good that you will want to sh͞ar
By J. Carol Richards
Accounts vary as to the origin of trail mix. Some believe that, as early as 1910, Horace Kephart, an outdoorsman who wrote a camping guide, described a snack that consisted of nuts, raisins, and chocolate. In 1968, some California surfers took credit for combining peanuts and raisins for an energy boost. However, the next generation of trail mix comes from a man who loves the outdoors and has created an “impossibly good” snack that has won national awards. Even the name was carefully chosen to reflect Peter’s beliefs that we all share the earth and its bounty. Sh͞ar is the phonetic spelling of share and is pronounced like bear.
Peter Rushford grew up loving the outdoors and is a former professional skier. His career in the Outdoor Industry kept him on the road for a time alongside his twin brother, working with a number of iconic outdoor brands including TEVA, UGG, & MERRELL. Following an injury, he sustained while racing marathons, Peter took up yoga and cross-fit, and began eating Paleo prompting him to need a healthy snack due to the high intensity workouts. The problem was, all of the trail mix options he had too much sugar, too much salt and dumbed down with fillers. Some were bland, and some were simply unhealthy. So, Peter began mixing his own which became a quest. 3 years, 52 recipes, and nine hundred hours later, Peter perfected the Sh͞ar Original “impossibly good trail mix”. This snack is healthy and delicious. All of the ingredients are responsibly sourced from small organic family farms. Sh͞ar is plant-based, non-GMO, gluten and preservative-free. Still made in small batches, in Austin Texas, the nine key ingredients blend to create a masterpiece of flavors and textures. No stabilizers or sweeteners are used. Enjoy the taste of almonds, pecans, cashews, and pistachios, along with wild blueberries, antioxidant-rich Montmorency cherries, whole cranberries, and coconut flakes. Shār introduced a new snack last year, using their nine organic fruits and nuts for chocolate lovers and wrapped them in smooth, delectable, antioxidant-rich dark chocolate clusters.
Shār is committed to sustainability and the preservation of the planet. He desires that future generations have the same rich outdoor experiences he has enjoyed throughout his life, prompting him to create the iconic Sh͞ar tube. The tube is 100% plastic-free, recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable for up to 2 years!. Peter’s company is one of the first to offer plastic-free, compostable packaging. Shār donates, 20% of their net profits back to The Conservation Alliance, Carbon Neutral Certified, and is a Certified B Corp. For Peter Rushford, “We are on a mission to be one of the most sustainable snack companies in the world and hope to inspire other brands to join us.
