Whiskey, Ghosts, and Spirits At The Maverick Bar

Most people go to a bar to imbibe spirits. But at the Maverick, you may find yourself sharing a drink with spirits of a different sort!

Located in downtown San Antonio, the Maverick is a business with a long history. The building was built in 1917 and was originally a bank. Since then, the building has seen its fair share of uses, including as a nursing school and as a private residence.

It’s only natural that spirits would be in the place, if you believe in that sort of thing.

In an interview with Kenneth Fey, the General Manager of the Maverick, he mentioned that employees have heard voices calling their names. But when they looked around, no one was there.

Other employees have also reported hearing footsteps, along with seeing odd shadows in reflections. A chef even claims that someone pulled his walkie-talkie from behind!

You may think these incidents are the result of overactive imaginations. But other unexplained phenomena aren’t easily explained away.

For example, the Maverick has motion sensors stationed throughout the building. On at least one occasion, an employee has heard glass breaking in the building, and the motion sensor for that area gave an alert. But when investigated, nothing was found. No glass had been broken, and no one was found in the area.

Similarly, one day the morning crew came in to find a door wide open! Fortunately, nothing was taken. But the management wondered how that mistake could have happened. The Maverick does have security cameras, and one was focused on the back door. So, the folks in charge decided to watch the footage.

They saw the usual comings-and-goings. Near closing time, the employee assigned to lock the door closed it as usual and checked it. Everything seemed fine, but after everyone left, the door very slowly opened by itself! Maybe the latch didn’t fully catch, or maybe it was something else…

Curious about what was going on, the Maverick team invited a medium on a tour of the building. During the tour, she kept rubbing her neck, eventually saying “Someone was strangled here.” Meanwhile, her neck turned beet red, as if she was indeed being choked.

This happened in the old vault, where the Maverick currently keeps their whiskey. Let’s just hope the ghosts leave the whiskey alone!

Apparently, a paranormal TV show sent a team to investigate the weird goings-on at the Maverick. While the details aren’t yet public, they definitely saw shadows and heard a bunch of unexplained noises.

As much as we think we know, there’s still a lot that human beings just don’t understand. Stop off and have a drink at the Maverick sometime. You may make a new friend, one that hails from the hereafter!
